This page explains what this site stores, where, and why. The site is run by Volatis, the author, and hosted by Cloudflare.
Reading
You don’t need an account to read. Your reading settings, the chapters you’ve read, your place in each story, and the display name you last used for comments are saved in your own browser (local storage). They aren’t sent to this site. Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes them.
If you only read, the site itself stores nothing about you.
Sign-in
Readers don’t sign in; there are no reader accounts. Only the author signs in, to reach the admin pages for moderation and release scheduling. That sign-in is handled by Cloudflare Access, which processes the author’s account email, and the site checks it against its list of authors.
Comments
You comment with a display name you choose. No email address or account is asked for. For each comment, the site stores:
- your display name and the comment text
- the chapter and story, and the comment it replies to, if any
- when it was posted, edited or moderated
- its status (waiting for approval, approved, hidden, removed or deleted), and why it was held, if it was
Approved comments are public on their chapter, with your display name and the date.
The first time you post, your browser gets a random private key in a cookie named vc_id. Page scripts can’t read it, it’s sent only to the site’s comment service, and it lasts up to a year. It lets you see your own comments while they wait for approval, edit them for 30 minutes, and delete them. The site stores only a scrambled (hashed) form of the key, with your display name, when you first commented, and how many of your comments have been approved. After your first comment is approved, later ones appear without waiting, unless they contain more than two links.
The author can approve, hide or remove comments and block a browser key from commenting. Each moderation action is recorded with its time and the author’s account.
Your network (IP) address is not stored with your comments. To limit spam, the site records the time of each post with a scrambled form of your network address (the scrambling changes every day) and your commenter record. Entries older than two days are deleted the next time anyone posts.
Spam protection
When you open a chapter’s comments, the page loads Cloudflare Turnstile from challenges.cloudflare.com to check that a person is posting. According to Cloudflare, Turnstile uses your IP address, TLS fingerprint and browser user-agent, together with this site’s Turnstile key and address, to tell people from bots and to improve its bot detection. When you post, the site sends the Turnstile result and your IP address to Cloudflare to confirm it. Cloudflare states that it “does not have the ability to directly identify any individuals” from these signals. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy, which includes its Turnstile terms.
Hosting and storage
The site runs on Cloudflare’s network. Comments and the release schedule are kept in a Cloudflare D1 database, whose primary copy is in the Asia-Pacific region. Like any website host, Cloudflare processes the technical information every web request carries, such as your IP address and browser details, to deliver and protect the site. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
The site doesn’t keep logs of visits, and Cloudflare’s request logging for the site (Workers Logs) is turned off. Cloudflare gives the author overall traffic statistics, such as numbers of requests, which don’t identify individual readers.
Cookies and browser storage
| What | Purpose | How long |
|---|---|---|

vr: entries in your browser’s local storage | Reading settings, chapters read, your place, your last display name | Until you clear this site’s data |
| Cookies or storage Turnstile may use when you open comments | Bot detection, which Cloudflare describes as strictly necessary | As set by Cloudflare |
CF_Authorization cookie, only for the author on admin pages | Author sign-in (Cloudflare Access) | The sign-in session |
Ads and analytics
There are no ads, analytics, or tracking scripts or cookies on this site.
How long things are kept, and deleting them
- Comments are kept until they’re deleted or removed. When you delete one, or the author removes one, its text is erased and it stops showing; if others replied to it, a placeholder without your name or text keeps the replies in place. A record that the comment existed (your display name, its chapter and its times) remains.
- Commenter records (display name and the scrambled key) are kept so moderation keeps working.
- Spam-check entries are deleted after about two days, as described above.
- Backups: the database keeps a rolling history of its earlier states for 7 days (Cloudflare D1 Time Travel), so mistakes can be undone. The author also saves backup copies, which include comments.
You can delete your own comments from the same browser while they’re waiting for approval or visible. If you clear your cookies, that browser can no longer edit or delete your earlier comments.
